Matthew Laws wins Mid- Amateur Championship

On Sunday 6th May at Louth Golf Club the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs officiated in the running of the Lincolnshire Mid-Amateur Championship.

The Mid-Amateur is a stroke play competition played off scratch for competitors 35 years of age and over. Competitors come from any of the 57 clubs in Lincolnshire.

As a singles event the Mid-Amateur comes fourth in the importance of Union competitions, behind the Lincolnshire Amateur Championship, Lincolnshire Match play and Lincolnshire Open.

A Carholme member has never won any of these Championships until this year when Matt Laws posted a score of 74 with Richard Latham from Woodhall Spa.

Richard and Matt went head to head in a playoff to decide the winner. Holes 1 – 2 and 3 were halved, on the par 3 ninth hole, a three was good enough to win for Matt and lift the R. W. Thomas Trophy as the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs Mid-Amateur Champion for 2007.
